Towson's John Davis suffers gunshot wound in drive-by shooting

John Davis, a forward for Towson University, suffered a gunshot wound in a drive-by shooting in Philadelphia on Saturday.

In a statement released by the school, Towson head coach Pat Skerry said that Davis had stayed back in his hometown of Philadelphia after the team played Drexel for the birth of his son, Bryson Hunter Davis Harris.

“He was outside of his family home when a car drove by and opened fire,” Skerry continued in the statement. “We are extremely thankful that John, and everybody else involved, was not seriously harmed. Our main focus is the health of John Davis.”

In the 2016-17 season, Davis has averaged 11.8 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. The communication studies major leads the team in rebounds. His status for the remainder of the season is undetermined.
