Ange Postecoglou has rued Tottenham Hotspur’s luck on the injury front as their woeful run of form continued off the back of yet another defeat in Thursday’s 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest.

Anthony Elanga’s goal just before the half-hour mark saw Spurs come away empty-handed from a fourth league outing in five matches, only a few days after they were comprehensively thrashed 6-3 by leaders Liverpool.

Already without the services of both of their first-choice centre-backs in Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, the North Londoners lost Radu Dragusin to injury last time out to further deepen their crisis.

Tottenham are set to be without as many as nine players through injury for their final involvement of 2024 against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday, while Djed Spence is ineligible to feature following his sending off against Forest.

“We’re running a fine line,” Postecoglou said in his pre-match press conference.

“There’s always been issues at different times, but not to this extent. I think we’ve had close to pretty consistently 10 first-team players not available for a significant run of games.

“Definitely a first for me. We’re in a tough spot, and we have been for a while.

“We’ve been kind of getting through it for quite a while and keeping our fingers crossed we don’t get any more issues.”

Despite having scored the second-most goals behind Liverpool, Tottenham are currently 11th in the Premier League table, and their best route to securing European football could be via the League Cup.

Courtesy of a thrilling 4-3 quarter-final triumph over Manchester United, Spurs are through to the last four of the competition in their search for a first piece of silverware since 2008.

However, awaiting them is a daunting two-legged assignment against Liverpool, who are firing on all cylinders at the moment.
