Tottenham weighing up late swoop for out-of-favour Barcelona academy product
FC Barcelona continue to make moves to strengthen their squad during the final two weeks of the winter transfer window.
As previously reported, in order to bring in new players, the Catalans must offload some of their current squad members. As such, Ansu Fati has emerged as one of the candidates to leave the Blaugrana this month.
Manager Hansi Flick has already suggested that the 22-year-old forward will struggle to find playing time at the club, having been left out of several matchday squads in recent weeks.
Despite this, Fati, who is part of the squad to face Benfica tonight in the absence of Dani Olmo, wants to stay at Barcelona. However, his future remains uncertain as the club would prefer to find him a new destination due to his high salary.
Tottenham interested
Last season, Fati was loaned out to Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion, and another club from England has now emerged as a potential destination for the La Masia forward.
Indeed, as per reports relayed by Mundo Deportivo, Tottenham Hotspur have shown interest in signing Fati.
After narrowly missing out on signing Randal Kolo Muani from PSG, who is now joining Juventus on loan, Spurs have now turned their attention to the Barcelona forward.
Ange Postecoglou’s side are also interested in AC Milan’s Noah Okafor as an alternative.
The proposed deal by Tottenham would involve a loan with an option to buy. However, Fati is hesitant to accept this offer, as he wishes to continue playing for Barcelona.
The Catalans prefer to move the Spaniard on so that they can generate the fair play space required to bring in Rashford. The ball is now in the player’s court, with less than two weeks before the window slams shut.
