Tottenham weighing up £20m bid to secure major Jan transfer, Postecoglou given green light – report
Tottenham Hotspur are looking to sign a new goalkeeper in the January transfer window, and they want to sign Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford next month.
Spurs are looking to sign a reliable cover in January following the injury to first-choice keeper Guglielmo Vicario.
He has undergone ankle surgery, but Ange Postecoglou has suggested recently that the Italian keeper is progressing really well.
Fraser Forster has been far from convincing and made some horrendous errors during the recent 4-3 win against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup.
According to a report from the Sunday Mirror (page 54), Spurs are weighing up a £20 million move for Trafford next month.
Postecoglou has been given the green light to bring in a backup goalkeeper, and he wants to bring Trafford to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Difficult to lure James Trafford away from Turf Moor
Tottenham see the goalkeeper as someone who can grow into a top player and could challenge Vicario for the number one in the side in the coming season.
However, it won’t be easy to lure him away from Turf Moor. He is a key player for the Clarets who are aiming for promotion this season, and they won’t be willing to do a deal for the 22-year-old unless the offer is too good to turn down.
Moreover, Trafford could look to join a club where he will be a guaranteed starter. A move to Newcastle United could appeal to him as the Magpies want him as their first-choice keeper next season.
Newcastle failed in their attempt to sign Trafford during the summer window, but Eddie Howe could make another attempt for him next month.
Moreover, it appears that Postecoglou is looking to keep faith in Forster until the time Vicario returns. Spurs will be looking to sign a few players next month, but immediate surgery is required in other areas of the pitch.
