Tottenham target Breel Embolo responds to Monaco exit rumours
Breel Embolo (27) has been linked with a move away from AS Monaco before the closure of the transfer window. L’Équipe have reported interest from Tottenham Hotspur, whilst Como were also interested in the Switzerland international, before being priced out of a move.
Embolo has had a season of contrasting fortunes at Monaco. Crucial in build-up, he has nonetheless struggled in front of goal and, with his contract expiring in under 18 months, the question of his future is an increasingly pertinent one. Mika Biereth has already been recruited in his position, Folarin Balogun will return to full fitness, perhaps in March, and George Ilenikhena’s development will also have to be factored in. That would leave four strikers competing for one position. A departure in the summer, would seem logical.
Embolo recently expressed desire to stay at Monaco
Valued at €20m by the Principality club, a departure this month is even a possibility. Amid the links with a move to Tottenham, Embolo was questioned about his future during a mixed zone interview, attended by Get French Football News at the San Siro on Wednesday.
He didn’t provide a verbal response but instead smiled and pointed at the Monaco badge on his jumper before walking away. Just a few weeks ago, he expressed a desire to extend his contract with Les Monégasques. His current deal expires at the end of next season.
