Tottenham star Rodrigo Bentancur will reportedly miss Tottenham’s next seven domestic games after comments he made about his teammate Son Heung-min.

One of those games is against Manchester United and another will see Tottenham take on Man City.

Bentancur, 27, made the comments while on international duty with Uruguay in June.

The Uruguay international said South Korean people “all look the same” during an interview in Spanish on national TV.

When asked for a Tottenham player’s shirt by the host, Bentancur replied (via The Mirror): “Sonny’s? before adding “It could be Sonny’s cousin too as they all look the same.”

The Premier League later confirmed that the Spurs star had been charged with an ‘aggravated breach’ of their rules. He replied for his ‘very bad joke’ on Instagram afterwards.

According to The Sun, the FA has decided to ban Bentancur for seven domestic matches. It means he will miss the upcoming league matches against City, Fulham, Bournemouth, Chelsea, Southampton and Liverpool – as well as the Carabao Cup quarter-final against United.

United are scheduled to travel to Tottenham on December 19, which will be the seventh match of Bentancur’s potential ban. He could return for Tottenham’s trip to Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day.

The Reds beat Leicester City 5-2 in the previous round of the Carabao Cup to book a quarter-final date with Tottenham.

It is worth noting that Son accepted Bentancur’s apology, writing on social media: “He made a mistake, he knows this and has apologised. Lolo [Bentancur] would not mean to ever intentionally say something offensive.

“We are brothers and nothing has changed at all. We’re past this, we’re united, and we will be back together in pre-season to fight for our club as one.”

Bentancur’s ban will come as a blow for Tottenham since he’s made 15 appearances this season, scoring once.

United will hope they have a full-strength midfield for the tie to take advantage of Bentancur’s absence. Kobbie Mainoo has yet to return from a muscle injury.
