Torri Huske Goes From Tokyo Heartbreak To Paris Gold In Hundredths Of A Second

Time was on Torri Huske’s side this time. Very little time.

The American swimmer won the 100-meter butterfly at the Paris Olympics on Sunday by four-hundredths of a second over U.S. teammate Gretchen Walsh, video showed.

Huske had spent the previous three years re-living another split-second moment ― finishing off the podium in the Tokyo Olympics by one-hundredth of a second in the same event.

She was so shocked at her turn of fortune that her jaw dropped when she looked at the scoreboard.

“Just very surreal,” she told The Washington Post.

I didn’t know how to process it,” the 21-year-old added. “It’s just very overwhelming when you’ve been dreaming of this moment for so long.”

Huske invited Walsh, the world record holder in the event, to the gold medal podium for the national anthem.

Huske smiled, sighed and cried.

It was about time.
