Toronto FC signs 15-year-old Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty
Toronto FC signed their youngest player in club history on Wednesday, announcing 15-year-old Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty.
The Brampton, ON native signed with Toronto FC II in December 2018, after playing two seasons with the team’s academy. Marshall-Rutty is now the 22nd player to sign for the first team from the academy in the club’s history.

Previously, the record for youngest signing by the 2017 MLS Cup champions was fellow Canadian Doneil Henry, who signed at the age of 17 in 2010.
Toronto FC GM Ali Curtis told reporters that he is “among the top young players in all of North America,” before adding that there was interest from Europe for the 15-year-old’s signature.
Marshall-Rutty has represented Canada on the national stage, earning an international call-up to the Under-15 National Team for the 2019 CONCACAF Boys Under-15 Championship.
He made his professional debut for Toronto FC II in USL League One on June 28, 2019, just days after he turned 15.
With Marshall-Rutty in the mix as a depth option with potential, Toronto FC will look to make it four consecutive MLS Cup Final appearances.
Toronto FC hold their first match of the 2020 season on Feb. 29 against the San Jose Earthquakes.
