Chelsea are looking to sign an “established” centre back in the summer window according to The Athletic journalist Liam Twomey.

The January window is into the final two weeks, but as of yet Chelsea haven’t been particularly busy, although this is the time when things generally start to pick up.

The Blues have agreed a deal with Juventus to send Renato Veiga on loan for the rest of the season, although there are still a number of others they are looking to move on.

Chelsea have been forced to strengthen defensively this month given injuries to Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana, who is on track to return before the end of the season.

The Blues have recalled both Aaron Anselmino and Trevoh Chalobah from their respective loan spells, whilst they have also agreed a deal to sign Mamadou Sarr from Strasbourg, with the highly rated 19-year-old centre back set to arrive in the summer.

Enzo Maresca’s side did explore a move for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi this month, and it’s believed that deal has been put on the back burner until the summer.

It feels like there’s going to be a lot of change at centre back before the start of next season, with question marks over the futures of Axel Disasi, Tosin Adarabioyo and Benoit Badiashile.

Chalobah is still expected to be sold in the summer, and in words cited on X.com Twomey has stated the Blues are looking to sign an “established” centre back in the summer window.

It makes sense given Thiago Silva hasn’t properly been replaced and despite Levi Colwill showing leadership qualities the Blues do a lack a real leader in the back line.

As of now it’s unclear who Chelsea will look to target, but it’s certainly an area that needs addressing ahead of next season.
