Top Flyers Defenseman Healthy Scratched Against Kings

Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Cam York, who has established himself on the team's top pair, will be healthy scratched against the Los Angeles Kings tonight.

York, who has recently come back from a lengthy upper-body injury, was benched for the third period in the Flyers' last game against the Detroit Red Wings on Dec. 18.

When asked if there were specific aspects of York's play that factored into the decision to take him out of the lineup, head coach John Tortorella said, "I'm not gonna get into all the details. He has struggled since he's come back. I just think he's kind of stuck in neutral a little bit."

Despite the injury setback this season, York has grown to be a key part of the Flyers' defense, putting up career numbers last season in terms of goals, assists, and ice time. He also received the Pelle Lindbergh Memorial Trophy for being the team's most improved player last season, an award voted on by his teammates.

Tortorella has never been afraid to scratch important players, and this scenario is no different. According to him, the situation isn't as deep as some might make it out to be.

"You guys try to read into it," he said. "He hasn't played well. I take him out and put in [Emil] Andrae. There's nothing else to it."
