Tom Craig, a member of the Australian Olympic men's field hockey team, has been released after he was taken into custody for allegedly purchasing cocaine.

According to the Paris prosecutor's office, police broke up a drug deal Tuesday night that was taking place outside of a building in the city's 9th district.

Prosecutors said that Craig, 28, was attempting to purchase one gram. A 17-year-old alleged seller was also brought in by police.

Australia's Olympic Committee said in a statement that no charges have been filed.

"The AOC is continuing to make enquiries and arrange support for the team member," the committee's statement said.

Craig faced a summary hearing on Wednesday and was released without a fine, but was given a warning, according the prosecutor's office.

"At the end of his police custody, the hockey player was presented to a delegate of the prosecutor for notification of a probationary criminal warning for drug use," a spokesperson said.

After being released, Craig read a statement to assembled media apologizing for his actions

"First, I'd like to apologize for what has occurred over the past 24 hours," Craig said. "I made a terrible mistake and I take full responsibility for my actions.

"My actions are my own and in no way reflect the values of my family, my teammates, my friends, my sport, and the Australian Olympic team. I've embarrassed you all and I'm truly sorry."

Craig was part of the silver medal winning Aussie side at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, as well as a member of the team that won gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Australia's men's team was eliminated in the Olympic quarterfinals earlier this week.
