According to Florian Plettenberg, Hoffenheim midfielder Tom Bischof has agreed to join Bayern Munich on a free transfer.

It had previously been reported that the 19-year-old was garnering attention from a number of Bundesliga clubs, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.

However, despite Eintracht Frankfurt initially leading the race for his signature, Bischof has elected to join Der Rekordmeister in the summer.

It is understood that Vincent Kompany and Max Eberl have been key in landing the midfielder’s signature, with a medical planned for next week.

One aspect of the deal that could have played a significant part in ensuring Bayern secured Bischof’s signature is that he will be replacing Leon Goretzka at the club.

Previous reports had suggested that the 19-year-old would be sent out on loan for the entirety of next season, but as stated within the report, this is currently not planned, and Bischof is expected to play a key role for Kompany’s side next season.

What did Max Eberl reveal?

Nevertheless, Bayern’s director of sport was not willing to give too much information away, revealing after Der Rekordmeister’s clash with Hoffenheim (via Florian Plettenberg):

“As long as nothing has been signed with us, I can’t confirm anything at all. When the time comes, we will announce it.”
