'So damn frustrating': Fans are not happy NBC cut away from Canada receiving gold medals

If you're a fan of women's soccer in the United States, chances are you weren't able to watch the full medal ceremony on Friday.

On Day 14 of the Tokyo Games, Canada defeated Sweden in penalty kicks to claim gold in the tournament. Shortly after the game's conclusion, the Canadian, Swedish and U.S. national women's soccer teams lined up to receive their medals, which instead of airing on NBC's flagship broadcast could be seen on NBC Universo.

The bronze medals were the first to be awarded, but as soon as the Americans finished receiving their reward for beating Australia, the network ditched the coverage of the ceremony entirely.

It's a questionable decision to say the least, especially when you consider that Canadian national team stars like Christine Sinclair and Desiree Scott play in the U.S.-based National Women's Soccer League.

Needless to say, this angered a number of viewers looking forward to seeing Canada receive its first-ever gold medal in the event.

For fans who followed the tournament from start to finish and were looking to see a champion crowned, it's certainly disappointing to see it end prematurely.

Meanwhile, north of the border, Canadians were able to watch their squad receive their medals and hear the Canadian national anthem play proudly through International Stadium Yokohama following the historic victory.

Regardless of whether those in the U.S. saw it or not, the Canadian national women's team is the best in the world.
