Manchester United youngster Toby Collyer has given his verdict on his sensational performance against Arsenal in the early hours of Sunday morning.

United suffered a 2-1 loss at SoFi Stadium, with goals from Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli cancelling out an early Rasmus Hojlund strike.

The Red Devils won a penalty shootout that took place after full-time, with Jadon Sancho’s kick proving decisive.

Despite the defeat, there were plenty of positives to take for United, with Collyer being one of them. The 20-year-old started his third pre-season match and he didn’t disappoint.

He especially struck a strong partnership with Mason Mount in the middle of the park and barely put a foot wrong.

During the 45 minutes he was on the pitch, Collyer won 100% of his ground duels and 100% of his challenges in the air. He also made three interceptions

It was a calm and assured performance from Collyer, who proved why Ten Hag rates him so highly.

After the final whistle, he spoke to MUTV. The midfielder said, “It was a tough game but I thought we did well as a team.”

“We did some good things, some things to improve, but I thought we had the right attitude. We tried to do what the manager was telling us to do.”

“I thought I had an okay game. There was a lot of things I could have done better, but it’s great to experience a game like today and I can take it into the next game and training tomorrow.”

When asked about playing alongside the experienced Casemiro, Collyer remarked, “So valuable. He’s one of the best ever in that position.”

“It’s great for someone like myself to learn from him. Even just to watch him in training and having him next to me, always talking to me and helping me out. Other lads as well. He’s a real leader in the team.”

Collyer added that he’s relishing playing for the first team and featuring against tough opposition such as Arsenal.
