The Time Patrick Roy Chirped Martin Brodeur At A Country Club In Florida A Week Before Landing Islanders Job
Chirping is a work of art, and it turns out that New York Islanders head coach and Hockey Hall of Fame goaltender Patrick Roy is still a master of the chirp game.
On the latest episode of The Cam & Strick Podcast, fellow Hockey Hall of Fame goaltender Martin Brodeur shared that Roy chirped him at a country club a few weeks before taking the job on Long Island.
"Last winter, I'm in Florida," Brodeur said. "My buddy invites me to this country club for dinner. And I sit there and Patrick's a member there. He's sitting with a couple of his buddies and his girlfriend. And he gets up and says, 'Hey Marty! Long time no see. Hey, what's going on?'
"A week later, he got the job [with the Islanders], but he never said a word to me. Just being nice [before I left], I get up and I say, 'Hey, it was nice seeing you,' and I shake his hand. He goes, 'Let me introduce you to my girlfriend. And he goes, 'Hey, this is Martin Brodeur, the second-best goalie in the world.' I thought it was the funniest thing."

That's Patrick Roy for you. It's not the first time he's said he's better than another goalie, as he told his grandchildren he was better than Kelly Hrudey when asked.
