Tim Anderson bought his mom the best gift after record extension with White Sox

The Chicago White Sox made Tim Anderson a very happy man last week when they finalized a new six-year, $25M extension. That went in the record books as the richest contract ever given to a player with one year of big league experience

Now the White Sox shortstop of the present, and future, is spreading that joy around, beginning with a very expensive and generous gift that he purchased and presented to his mother on Wednesday.

That would appear to be a Mercedes SUV, which is a pretty nice way of saying thank you for all of the support his mom has given him throughout his journey to the big leagues.

According to MLB.com’s Scott Merkins, Anderson mentioned that his decision was in part motivated by providing financial security for his wife and daughter. In doing so, he forfeited all of his arbitration eligibility, which could have netted him more money in the long run. But the security in the unpredictable landscape of baseball was too good to pass up.

“For me to be able to tell my mom this, to see the smile on her face, was just priceless,” Anderson said of buying his mom her sweet new ride.

Now he might have to start spreading some joy to his teammates as well. After signing the deal, teammate Todd Frazier said he was expecting Anderson to fund a team dinner. If and when that happens, Anderson might actually wish he’d held out for more money. His teammates love him, sure, but they never take it easy when someone else is picking up the tab.
