Thursday’s highlights

Hartsville 49, Rock Hill 30: The visiting Red Foxes (1-1-1) captured this game, building a 28-16 halftime lead and holding off several comeback attempts by Rock Hill (1-3). The Bearcats narrowed the gap to 35-30 with nine minutes left, but Hartsville pulled away. On two possessions, potential Rock Hill touchdown passes were batted down in the end zone by Hartsville defenders.

Richland Northeast 58, Nation Ford 49: The Falcons built a 42-30 halftime lead in this wild game, but Richland Northeast surged in the second half for the victory. Nation Ford narrowed the gap to 52-49 on a Kaleb White 6-yard touchdown run and a conversion kick with 11:03 remaining but was unable to score again. White ran for three touchdowns, and Carson Sanford threw a pair of touchdown passes.

Friday’s previews

Buford (1-2) at McBee (1-1), 7:30 p.m. — Cole Carnes scored on an interception last week for Buford in an 8-7 loss at Highland Tech in Gastonia. The Yellowjackets’ potential game-winning drive was stopped on downs in the final two minutes. Buford beat McBee 35-8 last season and has won three of the last four in the series, although most of those games were played more than a decade ago.

Clover (2-1) at York (1-2), 7:30 p.m. — The visiting Blue Eagles put their strong ground game, led by RB Landon Stone, up against a York team that is getting 192 passing yards a contest from QB Tayshon Freeman. Clover has won five in a row against York, although four of the games were decided by a touchdown or less.

Fort Mill (1-1) at Lancaster (1-2), 7:30 p.m. — It’s QB Quinn Kelly and the strong Fort Mill passing game against Lancaster, which has had problems this season stopping the run. This is the first meeting between these teams in five years. The teams have split their last eight games with each other

Northwestern (3-0) at South Pointe (2-1), 7:30 p.m. — One of the state’s best rivalries is renewed at South Pointe, with the all-time series tied 10-10. Northwestern has won the last two meetings and three of four. The Trojans pummeled South Pointe, 64-31, a year ago. Northwestern QB Finley Polk has thrown for 879 yards, second-best in the Charlotte region. And WR Kameron Vance’s 377 receiving yards also ranked No. 2 in the area. South Pointe has been more successful on the ground, as Mason Pickett-Hicks is averaging 113 rushing yards a contest.

Spring Valley (0-3) at Catawba Ridge (2-1), 7:30 p.m. — C.J. Couch has passed for 813 yards in three games. His favorite target has been Braylen Burgis, who has 22 receptions and three touchdowns. The visiting Vikings have been outscored 135-34 this season.

SATURDAY’S GAME

S.C. Spartans (1-3) at Greenville Hurricanes (1-3), 7 p.m. — The Hurricanes trounced the Spartans 56-0 last season, but the Greenville’s leading offensive players were all seniors.
