Three Takeaways From Utah HC's First Road Trip

After a grueling four-game road trip, the Utah Hockey Club will finally get to play in the comforts of Delta Center Saturday against the Boston Bruins, but that shouldn't take away from the accomplishments and progress the team made in those four games.

Here are three of the biggest takeaways from that road trip:

Resilience. It was on full display, including in last night's overtime loss in Anaheim. Twice Utah had to rally back from a goal down, and they did so. They had to overcome untimely penalties, and they did so. They had to respond to momentum swings, and yes, they did so.

Nowhere was it on display more than in the two games against the New York Islanders and Rangers, where the team dug deep and picked up two valuable extra points in hostile environments.

The blue-line depth is being tested. It's only five games into the season, but Utah's new-look blue line has already taken some major hits. Sean Durzi went out of the Devils game with an upper-body injury that will keep him out long-term, and Robert Bortuzzo left last night's loss in Anaheim with an injury.

Through youth or new signings, Utah is going to need to find a way to stay healthy this season defensively if they want to remain hot.

We also are waiting to see if John Marino will be good to go sometime in the next week, as he's been on injured reserve with an upper-body injury of his own. His return would provide a huge boost to the defence.

Utah loves to play spoiler. In the post-draft press conference in June, general manager Bill Armstrong said the team's goal is to be in and win meaningful games -- including those with the big boys.

He also warned that they could surprise some people with those results.

Well, Utah has already been in four of them, all home openers, with three of them on the road.

And they've pulled off two upsets.

Armstrong was definitely right about this team. Despite some nights where they may look like a group of youngsters, so far, Utah's proven their general manager right when he said they could do some special things.

Now they'll get to be in another meaningful situation against Boston Saturday, and then welcome new rival Colorado to the Delta Center next Thursday night.

It only makes you wonder, outside of the blue-line questions, what a resilient team that loves to play spoiler can surprise us with next.
