Three, including current board member, file for District 1 Fayette schools board seat

Three people have filed to run in the Nov. 7 general election for the Fayette County Public Schools board District 1 seat, including Marilyn Clark, who was appointed in January after Christy Morris resigned.

William Swope Jr. and Janet Greene have filed to oppose Clark, Fayette County Clerk election records show. Tuesday was the filing deadline.

Swope, a retired state fire marshal and former Lexington assistant fire chief, also applied when the seat was vacant in January. Board members chose Clark, a supplier diversity manager at the University of Kentucky who previously held roles at the Fayette County Public Schools and Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government.

The three candidates could not immediately be reached for comment Tuesday night.

District 1 in west Fayette County pulls from areas roughly between Leestown and Harrodsburg roads.

This is a developing story and may be updated.
