Thomas Brown takes blame for Bears' offensive woes in Seahawks loss
It was the same story, different week, with limited results once again for the Chicago Bears in their 6-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 17. The team's 10th consecutive loss proved that they actually can find new ways to embarrass themselves and lose games in different ways each and every week.
While the firing of Matt Eberflus after his coaching malpractice in a Thanksgiving loss to the Detroit Lions was needed and warranted, there were supposed to be positive results following. Unfortunately, since Thomas Brown took over as interim head coach, the Bears have looked lost, embarrassing, and outmatched in the four games he's led the team.
Speaking to the media after Thursday night's loss to Seattle, Brown took the blame for the team's abysmal offensive performance, which saw the Bears total just 179 yards.
"I asked [before the game] that all three phases play their best, together at one time," Brown said. "The offense was not good enough, which starts with me. As far as the game plan that I had, having those guys ready to go, we had plenty of opportunities to win it, had an unfortunate call that took away one of the touchdowns, but still had plenty of chances to take at-bats, and that's extremely frustrating and disappointing."
Taking accountability for the team's performances during his tenure has been a good look for Brown, who was thrown into a position of shambles taking over for Eberflus. Unfortunately, for the first time interim head coach, he hasn't been able to make the sort of impression on management and ownership he would've liked to in his campaign to become the full time head coach in the 2025 season.
