Thomas Brown makes his pitch for Bears head coach
Plenty of candidates will be interviewing for the vacant head coach position of the Chicago Bears, the last reported number being 16, and that includes interim head coach Thomas Brown. Although he may not get the opportunity he is looking for to be the team's next head coach, Brown is highly optimistic about what he could do if given a second chance to run it back with the Bears.
In the four losses they had under Brown, the Bears totaled 45 points while allowing 108 points to their opponents. Only once with Brown as the head coach did rookie quarterback Caleb Williams surpass 200 passing yards, the lone time coming in a 34-17 loss to the Detroit Lions. Brown, speaking to building an offense around Williams, said he feels the offense would be a lot different if he was head coach next year.
"A lot different," Brown said about the change in which the offense would see with him as head coach in 2025. "I think from one standpoint, he's [Williams] been through a season. Obviously some growing paints he's already worked through, but just from a foundational standpoint, the work in the offseason. If you want to be a great quarterback, a great player in general, it's built in the offseason, so the foundational piece is going to be different. Understanding more about him and how he learns, how to communicate with him, but also what he needs to be at his best will be different since I have a chance to address that."
Brown has made it clear during his tenure with the Bears that he cares about Williams, both as a player and a person. The team success is tied to the growth and development of Williams, and Brown believes that with a with full offseason and opportunity to work with the young quarterback, he'd have a much different offense than the very poor one that was on display in his interim tenure.
