Thomas Brown will experience one major change as Bears interim head coach

Coaching life in the NFL moves quickly, no matter what your role is, it can change in an instant and the 18-day journey for Thomas Brown is a perfect example.

Brown was named the new Chicago Bears interim head coach after the team announced the firing of Matt Eberflus on Friday. The move came just over two weeks since he was named the team's offensive coordinator, a promotion he received after starting the season as the team's passing game coordinator.

Since being elevated to offensive coordinator, the injection of Brown has been felt throughout, including a massive turnaround for rookie quarterback Caleb Williams and the offense becoming much more effective and productive. Now that he's in charge of the entire team, Brown will undergo one major change that will look different on game days.

In his first three games as offensive coordinator, Brown was calling plays from the coaching booth, but now with his second promotion this season, he will move down to the sideline, which gives him a different vantage point of calling the game.

Having to learn to trust his coaches who will remain in the coaches' box will be an adjustment for Brown, but one thing that won't change is he will still call plays for the offense, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Keeping some type of familiarity and continuity with Williams will be key to maintaining his development and progression, but Brown now has a much bigger role than he's ever had. Brown's double promotion this season shows the work he has put in and the trust he's earned within the locker room and with the team, but now he'll have a five-game audition to see if he can earn the right to a permanent head coaching position.
