Thomas Brown applauds Bears rookie Caleb Williams for not playing 'scared' football

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams has played plenty of mistake-free football, despite the team having lost seven straight games. In those losses, Williams has not thrown an interception, setting a NFL record for most passing attempts by a rookie without throwing an interception, although he did lose a fumble in last week's loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

Teammates and pundits have made Williams' ability to take care of the football a big talking point of late, and on Thursday, interim head coach Thomas Brown was also asked about it. Speaking to the media, Brown said Williams is not playing scared as a quarterback and believes his rookie is taking big chances in the passing game.

"He's not playing scared, he's ripping the football through tight windows, I think it's probably even more impressive," Brown said. "It's not like [he's] sitting back there, not taking opportunities or chances down the field. We always talk about trying to find ways to be aggressive, not reckless, there's a fine difference between the two of them. I think his progression when it comes to understanding the offense, operation wise, but also just letting it rip, has been positive for us."

Over the seven-game span in which Williams has not thrown an interception, he has some games with big numbers and other with pedestrian numbers. Despite public criticism, Brown seems to be very pleased with his rookie quarterback's play even with the team struggling.
