This Barry Bonds/Bobby Bonds fun fact will blow your mind
The 2016 Major League Baseball offseason is off to a tepid start. It’s still early, of course, but the big-name free agents remain available and all is quiet on the trade front. While Edinson Volquez and Eric Thames are fine players, we can understand if you aren’t losing your mind because they signed.
In times like these, what the baseball-loving public needs is a good fun fact to get us through a dreary November day. Thanks to one ambitious Twitter user, we have that.

Hey, that’s pretty neat. It seems like something that’s too convenient to be true, but it’s actually real. Barry Bonds hit a home run on every single day between April 1 and Sep. 29 except Aug. 5. That’s the day his father, Bobby Bonds, homered the most.
That’s a pretty entertaining fun fact, right? It gives you a look at how awesome Barry Bonds was over the course of his career. He hit a home run on every single date except one over a period of six months. That’s pretty awesome.
Then, you add in the extremely weird coincidence about Bobby Bonds. What are the chances that the one day Barry Bonds never hit a home run was the day Bobby Bonds hit the most home runs? That’s nuts, right? And, of course, you get to add in the fact that the two are father and son. It’s pretty eerie. Bobby Bonds, by the way, hit six home runs on Aug. 5 over his career.
Because of that, we’re giving his a solid 9.5 out of 10 on the “Fun Fact-O-Meter” we just made up. Any excellent Barry Bonds stat automatically gets an eight, but the crazy randomness here boosts it much higher. It’s not too specific, either. It’s not one of those fun facts that says “Bonds hit a home run Thursday nights off left-handed pitchers named Frank three times in his career.” Those are bad fun facts.
At the very least, this one makes you say, “hey, that’s neat.” Given the dearth of offseason news we’ve had thus far, that might just be enough to sustain us for a few hours until the next player signs.
