Third Time's A Charm As Fleet And Sceptres Clash
The Boston Fleet will face the Toronto Sceptres for the third time this season tonight at the Tsongas Center.
The Fleet currently stand in second-to-last place in the PWHL, having played just one-third of their games. The Sceptres in dead last trailing Boston by one point.
Tonight’s game is crucial for both teams, to determine who will be in last place in the league.
The Fleet have been on the road since December 27th, 2024, and have yet to beat Toronto this season.
"Over our recent road trip, we saw a lot of growth from our group, both on and off the ice. Whether it was battling back from being behind or just having additional time to bond throughout the travel, we’ve built a lot of momentum heading into tonight that we’re excited to keep building on," said Boston head coach Courtney Kessel.
The teams first met this season on Saturday, November 3rd, 2024. Toronto pulled out a three-to-one victory. The sole Fleet goal being scored by captain Hillary Knight.
The second matchup was Friday, December 27nd, 2024. Toronto once again left with a win this time, four-to-two.
Both games were played at Coco-Cola Coliseum in Toronto. Home ice advantage could be the determining factor in tonight’s game as the Fleet look to secure their first win over Toronto this season.
This is also the first game since the second PWHL trade this season, where the Fleet acquired forward Jill Saulnier in exchange for Fleet forward Taylor Girard. The trade was made between the Boston Fleet and the New York Sirens.
The loss of Girard for the Fleet will be massive on and off the ice. Girard is known to be a “duo” with forward Lexie Adzija. The pair is often seen together hanging out on and off the ice, and are roommates.
In a tweet regarding how Adzija has been doing since the trade, Adzija said, “The girls have been checking in, definitely not an easy day though”.
