Manchester United could receive a game-changing financial boost with less than a fortnight remaining in the transfer window.

According to Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth, Fulham have re-opened talks with United over signing Scott McTominay.

The Cottagers have made two attempts to snatch McTominay without any success.

Their last offer was worth £20 million, below United’s valuation of around £30m.

Fulham were only expected to return if United were willing to negotiate on the asking price.

With less than a year remaining on his contract, McTominay’s future is in the spotlight. However, the Red Devils can trigger a one-year extension.

The 27-year-old enjoyed an outstanding 2023/24 campaign, making 13 goal contributions in 43 appearances across all competitions.

He is still an important squad player according to manager Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag’s endorsement of McTominay’s role was evident when he brought him on against Fulham in the Premier League opener, aiming to break the deadlock.

The United graduate remains an influential player capable of donning multiple hats.

He can operate as a holding midfielder, a box-to-box number eight and a number ten, who has an eye for goals.

Joshua Zirkzee clinched the win for United against Fulham with a decisive goal but McTominay was right behind him, ready to pounce.

He could have slotted it home for the Red Devils if Zirkzee was not ahead of him.

Leicester City are paying £25m to Tottenham Hotspur to sign Oliver Skipp.

Given McTominay’s pivotal role and recent performances, United’s £30m asking price seems quite reasonable.

If the deal goes through, United could leverage these funds to target Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain.

The 23-year-old is United’s priority transfer target to bolster their midfield department.
