“I think I can do the same” – Nicolas Jackson makes huge claim as he targets Chelsea success
Nicolas Jackson highlighted the example of Didier Drogba and believes he has what it takes to become a Chelsea legend.
Jackson arrived at Chelsea from Spanish side Villarreal in the summer of 2023 in a deal worth £32m and had a successful first season.
The 23-year-old scored 17 goals in all competitions, 14 of those coming in the Premier League and was rewarded with a two year contract extension keeping him at the club until 2033.
Jackson backs himself to become a Chelsea legend
It was no secret Chelsea wanted to sign a striker in the summer having pursued Victor Osimhen for the majority of the window, but Jackson has shown he has what it takes to be the main man.
The Senegal international has made a brilliant start to the season and has eight goals and three assists from 13 Premier League games.
The win against Southampton was the first league game Jackson hasn’t started this season with Enzo Maresca taking the decision to leave Jackson on the bench and in the end he didn’t feature at all.
Jackson was heavily criticised last season for the amount of chances he missed, but he’s proving the doubters wrong and is now rightly being praised.
Alan Shearer believes the Senegalese will score a lot more goals this season, and he remains on track if he stays fit to score 20 league goals.
Jackson looks like he’s matured a lot as a player and his finishing has massively improved from last season and Jamie O’Hara feels he’s developing into a really good striker.
The former Villarreal man has been speaking about club legend Drogba and believes he can also become a Chelsea legend.
“I looked at former Chelsea strikers. Drogba scores 10 [PL goals] in his first season, 12 in the second season,” he said as cited on X.com.

“I think it was Costa that scored like 20 in his first season. Drogba after the first season wanted to leave, even the players wanted him to leave but he stayed and became a legend. I think I can do the same and succeed.”
It’s great to see that Jackson has confidence in himself and the way he’s performing right now you can understand why, but there’s still a lot to achieve before he reaches that status, which he will be fully aware of.
