Pre-season always offers opportunities to youngsters and Trey Nyoni certainly caught the eye of many Liverpool supporters during the 1-0 win over Real Betis.

At the age of 16 and 243 days, the midfielder made history last season by becoming the club's youngest-ever player to play in the FA Cup after making his first-team debut as a substitute for Harvey Elliott in the 3-0 fifth-round tie win against Southampton.

Nyoni, who arrived on Merseyside from Leicester City just last summer, has since turned 17 and is very much on the right track to earn more chances next season having done enough to impress new Liverpool head coach Arne Slot in training to earn a spot in the USA tour squad.

Slot praises Nyoni

Not only did Nyoni's performance spark a huge reaction from Liverpool fans on social media, but Slot heaped praise on the youngster too.

"The good thing about that was that we brought someone [on] that impressed me in the 45 minutes to an hour he played afterwards," the Dutchman said.

"That was the positive thing of Curtis going out for Trey, but of course for Curtis it's a pity that he couldn't play on."
