'There's Not Much He Can't Do': Mitch Marner Becomes Fastest Maple Leafs Player To 700 Points In Overtime Win Over Devils
When Mitch Marner assisted on Auston Matthews' game-tying goal against the New Jersey Devils on Thursday, he made Toronto Maple Leafs history.
The 27-year-old had two helpers in Toronto's 4-3 overtime win over New Jersey, assisting on the team's third goal and William Nylander's winner in the extra frame. He moves past the 700-point mark and is the fastest player in Maple Leafs history to that feat.

The forward, who has appeared in 622 NHL games throughout his nine-year career, passes the Maple Leafs legends Darryl Sittler (700 points in 666 games) and Mats Sundin (700 points in 703 games).
"Yeah, it was pretty incredible. I just found out after the game that it's the fastest in Leafs history," Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube said post-game. "He's a heck of a player. We all know that. You guys have seen him a lot more than me over the years. There's not much he can't do, you know, in terms of the game."
Marner's 700th point came after he dropped the puck to Matthews, who then beat Jacob Markstrom over the shoulder. He's now up to 14 goals and 48 assists for a team-leading 62 points in 46 games this season.

It was Matthews' second goal of the game and sixth in his last seven since returning from an upper-body injury. (Matthews is 17 points away from hitting the 700-point mark and he's played 593 games.)
Marner's second assist came off an incredible pass to William Nylander, who buried it on the breakaway in overtime. The overtime tally was Nylander's second goal of the game and 26th of the season, a team lead in that category.
"We tried to be an option for (Jake McCabe), got it back, and was looking up ice, saw Williy come on," Marner said of the overtime winner, "and saw their guy change, had a little seam to make it, and Willy made a great pickup and great goal."

Marner is the sixth player in Maple Leafs history to record 700 points. He's 286 points away from tying the franchise record for points, held by Sundin, who had 987 in 981 career games with Toronto.
George Armstrong (713 points), Borje Salming (768 points), Dave Keon (858 points), and Sittler (916 points) are ahead of Marner on the historic list.
"It's a cool milestone. Obviously, it doesn't happen without a lot of support around you through the nine years that I've been here. So we're very fortunate," Marner said after hitting the mark.
"There are some really great players and some guys that have made it easy for me to do my job. So, yeah, thank you for the guys that are around me and nothing's really done by yourself."
