The world of sports reacts to epic Djokovic-Federer Wimbledon final
Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic produced another epic showdown at Wimbledon, with the latter emerging victorious in five sets, 7-6, 1-6, 7-6, 4-6, 13-12.
Djokovic defended his title in truly astonishing circumstances, fending off two championship points from Federer to rally back, and eventually lifted the trophy.
The final was decided by a tiebreaker after both players fought to 12-12 in the fifth set, and as was the case throughout the match, Djokovic played his best during the extra frames, while Federer failed to close him out.
It was the longest Wimbledon final in the tournament’s 142-year history and though it might be early to call it as such, we’re confident Djokovic’s latest triumph over Federer will be remembered as an instant classic.
Federer and Djokovic had the world standing at attention (with due respect to the Cricket World Cup Final) and after the match ended, reactions poured in from across the globe.
Djokovic has now won his 16th Grand Slam, his fifth Wimbledon title and is now the back-to-back champion at the All-England Club.

This was the first Grand Slam final decided by a tiebreak after the fifth set was evened at 12-12.
Even if he loses the tiebreak 7-0, Federer will have won 11 more points than Djokovic today. #Wimbledon

Andy Roddick always admired Federer, and to a lesser degree, Djokovic. The former American standout couldn’t help but marvel in his own way.

Djokovic was also gracious in victory. It’s certainly well-earned.
