That's DC Hockey Ep. 1.5: Chychrun Extension When? Ovechkin's 2024 Wrapped, & Lindgren Breaks Down His Cartwheel Save

WASHINGTON — With the Washington Capitals ending 2024 on a high note with their 3-1 win over the Boston Bruins on Tuesday, we decided to record a special New Year's Eve edition of That's D.C. Hockey because there's quite a bit to discuss.

I asked Jakob Chychrun, who now leads all NHL defensemen in scoring with 11 goals this season, after the game if this is the most at-home he's felt in his career. And he didn't hold back about just how much he's enjoying his time in the District.

"I love these guys in the room. From top to bottom, this organization has been phenomenal," he said.

So, we dive into that and why an extension for the Boca Raton native is now the top priority.

Meanwhile, we take a look back at Alex Ovechkin's busy 2024, which saw 41 goals and a broken leg as he moves — fittingly — 25 goals away from Wayne Gretzky going into '25.

Then, finally, we wrap it up with a special segment, a 1-on-1 with Charlie Lindgren about that save. Yes, his cartwheel save of the year candidate was the highlight of a Michael Jordan-esque outing against the Carolina Hurricanes as he dealt with a stomach bug and intermission vomiting.

That said, enjoy, and happy New Year! I'm now sitting at a whopping 284 Capitals games covered in person, and I'm so blessed to be able to provide coverage and cover a great organization.

Huge thanks to the Capitals players, coaches, staff and PR department for their help. Here's to 2025, and enjoy the episode!
