Texas RB D'Onta Foreman heading to the NFL
Texas running back D’Onta Foreman is heading to the NFL.
The junior announced his intentions to head to the NFL draft on Wednesday after Texas finished the regular season 5-7.
Foreman was the leading rusher in FBS in 2016 with 2,028 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also had 323 carries, the most of anyone in college football. If San Diego State running back Donnell Pumphrey finishes the season with less than 120 yards combined in his next two games, Foreman will likely be the leading rusher after bowl games are taken into account.
If Texas had a winning season, Foreman would likely be under consideration for an invite to the Heisman Trophy ceremony.

His decision shouldn’t be a surprising one given his workload in 2015 and the shelf life of running backs in top level football. He had 30 or more caries in six of Texas’ 12 games, including a 51-carry, 250-yard effort in the Longhorns’ loss to Kansas. The game likely sealed the fate of former Texas coach Charlie Strong, who was fired Saturday in favor of Houston coach Tom Herman.

Foreman said Wednesday that he likely would have left if Strong was still the team’s coach.

His brother Armanti Foreman was the Longhorns’ leading receiver in 2016. He had 34 catches for 420 yards and three touchdowns.
