Texas Rangers rookie has historic day at the plate in win against the Baltimore Orioles

The Texas Rangers ended a six-game losing streak with an 11-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday and all eyes were on rookie Wyatt Langford who hit for the cycle in the 60th game of his career.

Langford hit 4-of-5 with a home run, four RBIs and three runs becoming the second Rangers rookie and eleventh player in franchise history to hit for the cycle and the first since Carlos Gomez pulled off the feat against the Los Angeles Angels in 2017.

Langford spoke with ESPN after the game and explained his favorite part of hitting a cycle and how the team overcame the Orioles.

“The home run was my favorite hit, I think that’s a pretty common answer,” Langford said, “Heaney was really good we got off to a good start, helped him out and he just filled up the zone.”

Langford started his historic performance with a fly out but would get his first hit in the fourth inning with a triple off the outfield wall showcasing his speed and completed the cycle with a three-run homer in the top of the eighth inning that put the Rangers up nine runs and put the game out of reach.

The ex-Florida Gator also made MLB history becoming the first rookie to hit a cycle, grand slam and an inside-park home run. The performance caps off a scintillating month that saw Langford, who led the Rangers in hits and RBIs, hit .309 with three home runs, 22 RBIs and 11 runs scored in June.

Langford and the Rangers will be in action next against the San Diego Padres at 7:05 on Tuesday at Globe Life Field.
