The 2023 World Series has begun, and the Texas Rangers have taken at 1-0 lead against the Arizona Diamondbacks heading into Game 2.

The opening pitch of Game 1 was thrown by George W. Bush, former President of the United States and native of Texas. Bush, who previously owned the Texas Rangers, has thrown the first pitch four times in his career, including in 2001 when the World Series between New York and Arizona was delayed due to the September 11 attacks.

Game 2 honors go to fan favorite Adrián Beltré who was a longtime presence for the franchise and a perfect person to kick things off.

Beloved Rangers star Adrian Beltre throws first pitch

Adrián Beltré, a Texas Rangers legend and Hall of Famer, will throw the first pitch at Game 2 of the 2023 World Series at Globe Life Field on Oct 28.

Adrián Beltré was a key member of the 2011 Texas Rangers team, which unfortunately lost the World Series that year to the Cardinals 4-3. Throughout his 21-year career, the talented third baseman earned five Gold Gloves and four Silver Sluggers.

Although Beltré primarily played for the Texas Rangers, he also spent time with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Seattle Mariners, and Boston Red Sox. With 3,166 hits and 477 home runs, Beltré had an impressive career, but unfortunately, he never won a championship title.

Baseball pitching great Ferguson Arthur "Fergie" Jenkins will be on the mound to catch Beltré's first pitch. Jenkins played from 1964 to 1983 and was the first Canadian and Chicago Cub to win a Cy Young Award. Although Jenkins spent the majority of his career with the Chicago Cubs, he also played for the Philadelphia Phillies, Texas Rangers, and Boston Red Sox.
