Liverpool loanee Ben Doak made his debut for Middlesbrough on Saturday in their 1-1 draw with Preston North End.

The 18-year-old made his move to the Championship club late in the summer but came off the bench on Saturday after 68 minutes to make his debut for Michael Carrick’s side.

Doak joined Liverpool from Celtic aged just 16 and has since made 10 appearances for the Reds' first team.

Doak also made his senior debut for Scotland over the international break, impressing in a 19 minute minute cameo in their 3-2 loss to Poland.

Doak’s move to Middlesbrough

The young winger’s loan move to the North East only came about late in the window but the Boro manager Michael Carrick, who made over 450 appearances for Manchester United, was delighted with the deal.

“We were keen to get [Doak] on board, we know what type of player and the potential and strengths that he’s got. We feel that he’ll fit us really well” Carrick said, via Teesside Live.

"So we just put our case across really and he was terrific to speak to and he’s delighted to be here. As for his reasons, you’ll have to ask him. But he’s delighted to be here and he's trained really well in the days that he’s been here. He’s chomping at the bit to get going."

Although Doak wasn’t able to change the result of the game, which was 1-1 when he came on, he gave a solid performance and showed glimpses of what could be to come at Riverside.

Liverpool’s loanees

Doak is one of a number of Liverpool players out on loan alongside the likes of Stefan Bajcetic, Owen Beck and Lewis Koumas and is one of six players at a Championship club.

Although a lot of the Reds' prospects moved away from the club this summer, it doesn’t mean their chance to make it at Anfield is over.

Current Liverpool first team members Harvey Elliott, Jarell Quansah and Conor Bradley all completed loan moves away from Merseyside before breaking into Liverpool’s first team squad.

Now, the trio have made a combined 186 appearances for Liverpool’s senior team and the door is very much open for prospects, such as Doak, to break into the first-team when they return from their loans.
