Teenage keeper Young eyes number one shirt
Homegrown keeper Matty Young has his sights set on winning the Sunderland number one shirt in the future.
The 18-year-old is currently on a season-long loan at high-flying League Two side Salford City where he has started the past nine matches in all competitions, keeping eight clean sheets.
Young could line up against Manchester City in the FA Cup third round on Saturday (17:45 GMT live on BBC One) and has reportedly already caught the eye of City boss Pep Guardiola.
Young joined Sunderland as a seven-year-old and signed a contract until 2028 in November.
He told the Black Cats website he has his sights on playing for his club which "means the world" to him.
"I have been with the club for over a decade. I have supported Sunderland my whole life. The place means the world to me, as a player and as a supporter," he said.
"I want to play for this club in the future, that is the goal for me. I am working my way up to hopefully get my opportunity.
"I am really pleased with the progress I am making so far."
