Which teams have qualified for the Champions League Round of 16?

There is just one more round of games to go in the Champions League’s new-look league phase after this week’s action.

UEFA’s new format for the competition has certainly proved a fascinating watch and there’s plenty on the line ahead of the final fixtures.

All 32 teams are battling for position in the league table, with the top eight automatically progressing the Round of 16. Under the new system, the teams who finish ninth to 24th will face off in play-off games to join the top eight in the last 16.

But which sides have secured their place in the knockout rounds?

Teams qualified for Champions League Round of 16

  • Liverpool

  • Barcelona

Liverpool were the first team to secure passage to the Round of 16 after a 2-1 win over Lille this week. Arne Slot’s side are the only team in the competition with a perfect record of seven wins from seven games. A position in the top eight means Liverpool bypass an additional two-legged tie and will be seeded when the last-16 draw is made.

Barcelona joined the Reds after guaranteeing a place in the top eight by beating Benfica. A chaotic clash saw the Catalans recover from 4-2 down to win 5-4 in a thriller. Barca are aiming for a first Champions League crown in a decade this season

A point in their final fixtures will be enough to secure automatic passage to the Round of 16.

Celtic booked their place in the playoffs with a 1-0 win over Young Boys. It’s the first time the Scottish champions have reached the knockout stages in the Champions League since 2012/13. Debutants Brest, Aston Villa, and Feyenoord are also all guaranteed at least a playoff position.

Teams already eliminated ahead of Matchday 8

Manchester City must win their final fixture against Club Brugge to progress, with Pep Guardiola’s side just outside the qualification positions as things stand.
