Team Canada Names Brayden Yager As Captain For The 2025 World Juniors

Team Canada has announced its leadership group for the 2025 World Juniors. Lethbridge Hurricanes' Brayden Yager will serve as captain, while Saskatoon Blades' Tanner Molendyk will be an assistant. Calum Ritchie, who currently plays for the Oshawa Generals, will also be on the leadership team.

This will be the second straight year that a WHLer has worn the "C" for Canada. Yager will follow in the footsteps of Kamloops Blazers Fraser Minten, who was given the honour for the 2024 tournament. Yager, however, will be looking for a better result as Canada fell in the quarterfinals to Czechia during the 2024 World Juniors.

So far this season, Yager has 34 points in 23 games. He played 21 games with the Moose Jaw Warriors before being traded to Lethbridge and has put up four points in the two games since the move. This will be Yager's second World Juniors, with the Winnipeg Jets prospect recording five points in five games at last year's tournament.

As for Molendyk, this will be his first World Juniors tournament. He was named to last year's team but was unable to participate due to injury. The Nashville Predators prospect has 21 points in 21 games this season and recently skated in his 200th career WHL game.
