TCU quarterback Hauss Hejny plans to enter the transfer portal
TCU freshman quarterback Hauss Hejny is planning to enter the transfer portal, the Star-Telegram has learned.
Hejny was a four-star recruit and state champion at Aledo and is also a TCU legacy. His father, Jesse, played defensive line for the Horned Frogs in the early 2000s.
In what was described as an agonizing decision, Hejny’s decision to enter the portal came down to playing time. Hejny redshirted this season while he rehabbed an ankle sprain and learned the offense.
There was hope that there would be an open quarterback competition next year, but sources informed the Star-Telegram that TCU is fully committed to Josh Hoover. Hoover is a redshirt sophomore and would be the starter for the next two seasons unless he left early for the NFL.
That meant Hejny’s first true opportunity to earn the job wouldn’t come until he was a redshirt junior. The Horned Frogs also signed four-star quarterback Adam Schobel, who just led Columbus to a 3A-Division I state championship on Thursday.
Hejny didn’t attempt a pass this season, but he rushed for 65 yards on 15 carries. He was instrumental in TCU’s 20-13 win over Cincinnati, helping the Horned Frogs milk the clock and hold off the Bearcats.
Hejny is not anticipated to play in the New Mexico Bowl on Dec. 28 and will instead focus on taking visits and trying to make a decision quickly.
Starting center James Brockermeyer also entered the transfer portal Friday.
