TCU football picked No. 10 in Big 12 media preseason poll

TCU will have more motivation for a bounce back season after the release of the Big 12 football media preseason poll.

The Horned Frogs were finished to pick 10th in the league behind No. 7 West Virginia, No. 8 UCF and No. 9 Texas Tech. TCU was picked ahead of Colorado, Baylor and BYU among others.

The Horned Frogs’ preseason spot isn’t surprising after the program went 5-7 last season following a run to the national championship game in the 2022 season.

In a response to last season’s disappointing finish TCU coach Sonny Dykes brought in Andy Avalos from Boise State to overhaul the defense and the Horned Frogs were extremely active in the transfer portal with over 20 new additions to the roster. Josh Hoover showed promise in his redshirt freshman season and the program is high on his ability going forward.

While TCU was picked near the bottom of the league, conference newcomer Utah was picked No. 1 in the preseason poll. The Utes went 8-5 last season without starting quarterback Cam Rising, but when Rising was healthy Utah made two straight Rose Bowls. He’s back for his final season and gives Utah a great chance to reach Arlington for the conference championship game.

Kansas State was picked second with one less first place vote as the Wildcats begin the Avery Johnson era. Last year’s runner-ups, Oklahoma State was picked at No. 3 and Kansas was voted No. 4. The poll figures to be a talking point at the upcoming Big 12 Media Days in Las Vegas on July 9-10.
