Who they're for: Golfers who want a long-iron replacement that blends enhanced distance and forgiveness (Qi35), or players who want to maximize forgiveness on mis-hits along with added height (Qi35 Max).

What you should know: TaylorMade has simplified its hybrid offerings by releasing a standard Qi35 with an adjustable hosel to help tune a distance gap and trajectory while also offering a non-adjustable, fairway-wood-style hybrid that targets higher-handicap golfers who need extra consistency.

The deep dive: Accomplished golfers are becoming more willing to use higher-lofted fairway woods, such as a 7-wood, and that has given TaylorMade a chance to simplify its line of rescue clubs and long-iron replacements.

For 2025, TaylorMade is offering two new hybrids – the Qi35 and Qi35 Max rescue clubs – for golfers looking for more distance, height and consistency than they would get from long irons.

The clubs share several technologies but have some differences too. Here’s what you need to know:

The chromium carbon fiber crown reduces weight on the top of the Qi35 rescue clubs.

Qi35: (2/17 degrees, 3/19 degrees, 4/22 degrees, 5/25 degrees)The standard Qi35 is the more adjustable of the two new rescue clubs. It features a chromium carbon fiber crown, like the material used on the Qi35 drivers and fairway woods, to remove weight from the top of the head, along with an adjustable hosel. Players and fitters can increase or decrease the loft by up to 2 degrees to help golfers hit shots to specific distances more easily, which should help with gapping.

A Speed Pocket slot in the sole behind the leading edge allows the lower portion of the hitting area to flex more efficiently on low-struck shots, a common mishit with hybrids.

There is a circular weight positioned forward in the sole of the Qi35 rescues, but it is not designed to be adjusted by players. Fitters can remove it using a special torque wrench and add other weights to change the overall swing weight of the club based on its length and the golfer’s needs.

Qi35 Max: (3/20 degrees, 4/23 degrees, 5/27 degrees, 6/31 degrees, 7/35 degrees)The Qi35 Max rescue clubs – which also feature a chromium carbon fiber crown – are larger from front to back and designed more in the style of miniature fairway woods. With the swing-weight screw in the back, they have more stability on mishits and a center of gravity that is also farther back, away from the face. The result is the Qi35 Max rescues should be more stable on mishits, produce a higher launch angle and create more spin than the standard Qi35 rescue clubs.

The Qi35 rescue clubs have Twist Face to help golfers hit straighter shots.

The Qi35 Max rescues do not have an adjustable hosel, and the lofts are slightly weaker than the corresponding clubs in the standard rescue lineup. The reason for this is the Max rescues are made for players who value shot height, forgiveness and stopping power over adjustability. With options ranging from a 3-iron replacement to a 7-iron replacement, the Qi35 Max allows players to take hard-to-hit irons out of the bag for enhanced consistency.

For golfers who struggle to generate clubhead speed and carry distance, TaylorMade offers a Qi35 Max Lite rescue that comes standard with a lighter Mitsubishi Vanquish shaft and Golf Pride Z Grip.
