Former Premier League forward Gabriel Agbonlahor has told Liverpool to do whatever it takes to keep Mohamed Salah at the club beyond the end of the season.

The 32-year-old is in the final year of his contract at Anfield, and speculation is rife about where he’ll be plying his trade next season.

Salah wouldn’t be short on potential suitors if contract negotiations with Liverpool came to a head, but he’ll likely favour a move away from the Premier League.

The Saudi Pro League are already dreaming about securing his services.

They saw a stunning £150 million bid rebuffed last summer, but they could get him without paying a penny with Liverpool stalling.

Salah is still one of the best players in the world, and he reminded the top brass at Liverpool what he’s worth with a goal and an assist in Saturday’s 2-0 win against Aston Villa.

Agbonlahor shares a similar opinion. The talkSPORT pundit named Salah in his Premier League Team of the Week and warned Liverpool about losing the Egyptian this summer.

“He was back to his best,” Agbonlahor said on talkSPORT. “Aston Villa couldn’t deal with him. You look at the counter-attack for the [Darwin] Nunez goal – that pace, he’s still got it.

“At his age, he’s not slowing down. He was a threat all round, he was showing his strength, he was making great runs, he was putting great balls in behind for Nunez.

“He got the assist and goal in the game – an outstanding performance from Mo Salah. Liverpool have to tie him down – whatever they want.

“If it’s £500,000 per week, Liverpool have to give him because you can’t replace him.”

Salah’s performance over the weekend saw him become the first player in Europe’s top five leagues to hit double figures for both goals and assists this season (10G, 10A).

Despite being in the latter stages of his career, the Egyptian has shown no signs of slowing down, and Liverpool would be silly to let him walk away next summer.
