Téji Savanier tells Montpellier teammates that he could soon be sold
The situation at Montpellier HSC is quickly unravelling, according to a report from L’Équipe.
The former Ligue 1 champions have struggled to rid themselves of the malaise that set in from the start of the campaign and find themselves rooted to the bottom of the table at the midway point of the season.
Michel Der Zakarian was sacked from his role as head coach in late October following a 5-0 defeat to Olympique de Marseille. However, results have not noticeably improved with the arrival of Jean-Louis Gasset. Five points separate them from AS Saint-Étienne in the relegation playoff spot.
Téji Savanier set to be sold?
The club captain Téji Savanier (33) has come under criticism this season particularly following his outburst after the Ligue 1 side were knocked out of the Coupe de France by amateur side Le Puy. However, he is also the player most expected the club to rely upon to help rescue them from their current situation.
L’Équipe writes that Savanier allegedly told his teammates that the fixture tonight against AS Monaco could be his last for the club, hinting that an imminent sale could be on the horizon.
