Surgery A Possibility For Hurricanes Netminder Frederik Andersen

Friday afternoon, Carolina Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour dropped a bombshell update on goaltender Frederik Andersen, stating that he was going to be out way longer than his original week-to-week diagnosis.

And on Saturday, he dropped another, confirming that surgery is definitely on the table for the Danish netminder.

"That's what we're debating," Brind'Amour responded with when asked if Andersen was going to need surgery . "Trying to decide, but it is a possibility right now."

Andersen, 35, has been out with a lower-body injury since Oct. 28, but its likely he suffered the injury during the Canes' 4-1 victory over the Seattle Kraken on Oct. 26.

The veteran goalie finished that game, but he did head to the bench during a stoppage in the middle of it to be checked out by head athletic trainer Doug Bennett.

While we don't know exactly what Andersen's injury is, Brind'Amour did confirm it was not related to the blood-clotting issue that he dealt with last season, which is the lone positive.

It's been a disappointing reality for Andersen who, in four seasons with Carolina, has missed nearly as much time as he's played because when he's played, he's been very good.

His 0.919 save percentage is his highest among the three franchises that he's played for and he currently sits one game away from 500 career games and two wins away from 300.

With Andersen sidelined the Canes will be leaning on Pyotr Kochetkov to carry the load and Spencer Martin to back him up.
