The sun was shining too bright, so a Leeds fan gave an opposing goalkeeper his hat

It’s not usually within a football supporter’s comportment to say anything nice about an opposing player, let alone deliberately help them.

But that’s what a Leeds United fan did for Barnsley FC goalkeeper Adam Davies. Sunshine was pounding the pitch at Oakwell Stadium on Saturday, and it was clearly affecting Davies. So during a stoppage of play in the first half, the fan did a good deed:

Leeds would go on to win 2-0 and currently sits eighth in the Championship, England’s second tier, while Barnsley is 17th.

Barnsley and Leeds are clubs with different expectations at the moment. Barnsley is just a season removed from being promoted back to the Championship, while once-regal Leeds has been trying to mount a charge back to the Premier League for nearly a decade.

Leeds is just three points out of the top six, which guarantees a berth in the annual promotion playoff, and figures to be in a heated race for one of those spots next spring. So it was nice to see the fan act with such graciousness.

Just don’t expect to see it against rival Millwall, or in one of the West Yorkshire Derbies, anytime soon.
