Summer signing leaves Kortrijk after just six months to join J League side Urawa Red Diamonds
Kortrijk have announced that after just six months, their summer signing Takuro Kaneko is going back to Japan to join Urawa Red Diamonds. The winger leaves Europe after two seasons, having spent last year on loan at Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb. While he impressed in patches, Kortrijk’s overall poor performances saw Kanenko limited to minutes off the bench in the games prior to the winter break. He only played 19 minutes in the two games managed by new head coach Yves Vanderhaeghe.
Prior to this season, Kanenko has had a run of really impressive campaigns. Prior to joining Zagreb he had scored nine goals and grabbed four assists for Consadole Sapporo. In Croatia he made 41 appearances, scoring five goals and grabbing five assists. Clearly it did not work out for the 27-year-old in Belgium. In 18 appearances for Kortrijk he scored just once, a sign of how poor the sides attacking outlay has been this season. The side are currently second from bottom in the league, with just 17 goals in 20 games.
