‘Stunning…magic’ – National media goes crazy over 8/10 Liverpool player after win v Aston Villa

Liverpool moved five points clear at the top of the Premier League table after beating Aston Villa 2-0 at Anfield on Saturday night.

Earlier on the day, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City suffered a 2-1 defeat against Brighton, their fourth loss in a row in all competitions, and Liverpool seized the opportunity to increase the gap at the top.

Darwin Nunez scored the first goal after the referee played the advantage with Mohamed Salah, setting him up in a devastating counter-attack.

Nunez missed several scoring opportunities to increase the lead, but Salah killed all hopes of a potential Villa revival when he finished from close range in the 84th minute.

The Egyptian king has now scored ten goals and provided ten assists in all competitions for the Reds, the first player in the Premier League to do so.

The 32-year-old has been in imperious form, and the Sunday Mirror has given him an 8/10 rating for his performance against Villa.

They have hailed his performance as “stunning” and “magic” while Robbie Fowler described him as “phenomenal”.

Are Liverpool genuine title contenders?

Liverpool have now won seven games in a row in all competitions at Anfield.

While Jurgen Klopp left behind a strong squad, nobody expected that the transition would be this smooth. Arne Slot has merely tweaked the system using the same players, and the results are simply amazing.

Liverpool have shown unbelievable consistency by winning 15 of their 17 games played so far in all competitions, but the players are not getting carried away, and neither is the Dutchman.

Slot has stayed humble and said that they have a minor lead, and added that it’s rubbish to talk about the title challenge when his only focus remains on how to implement his philosophy.

The Reds boss has praised Salah heavily after the match. The 32-year-old is in the final year of his deal at Anfield, and he is showing no signs of slowing down.

It is unclear whether he will sign a new deal, but the Reds legend is doing everything he can to persuade the club to offer him a contract extension.
