Stuart Attwell confirmed as referee for Fulham vs Crystal Palace after VAR controversy

The referees at the centre of Nottingham Forest’s row with the Premier League and FA have been picked to officiate at Euro 2024.

Stuart Attwell, whose integrity was questioned by Forest following their 2-0 defeat by Everton on Sunday, will be one of the VARs in Germany this summer, while Anthony Taylor who was in charge for the game, will be a referee, UEFA announced this morning.

Both the Premier League and the FA have launched investigations after Forest accused Atwell of being a Luton fan in a controversial social media post following their defeat.

Forest are refusing to back down, with their owner Evangelos Marinakis said to be “raging” at the decisions of Taylor and Attwell after the team was denied three penalties at Goodison Park.

Forest have made a formal request to PGMOL to release the audio recordings of conversations between officials, and are considering legal action. If Forest are charged and found guilty, a range of sanctions starting with a fine can be applied.

The Daily Mail reported this morning that Forest are also considering legal action against Sky Sports after pundit Gary Neville labelled their controversial statement like that of a “mafia gang”.
