Arsenal are hoping to win their first Premier League title since 2004 this season after finishing second behind Manchester City in each of the last two seasons, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang believes he knows what they need to finally get over the line.

The former Gunners striker, now with Saudi Pro League club Al Qadsiah, insists the North London club are in dire need of a goalscoring machine to become Premier League winners, jokingly telling The Athletic that he is the one that fits the bill.

The 35-year-old ended his time with Arsenal with 92 goals and 20 assists in 163 appearances, notching 69 Premier Leagues during spells with the Gunners and Chelsea.

Aubameyang has seven goals in 13 games for his club this season, and while he is past his peak, his old club could do with a younger version of him as they look to challenge Liverpool for the title going forward this term.

He won the Golden Boot in 2018-19 after bagging 22 league goals, only missing out on retaining it the following season after Leicester City star Jamie Vardy scored one more goal than him.

The most league goals an Arsenal player has scored in a season since then is 16, and failure to get a forward capable of guaranteeing at least 20 league goals per season could limit their chances of winning the Premier League.

They have been linked with several strikers in recent months, but it remains to be seen whether there are plans to get one before the end of the January transfer window.

Newcastle United hitman Alexander Isak would be perfect for the Gunners following his recent form, but he would cost suitors around £150 million, and Arsenal are unlikely to splash that amount of cash on a single signing anytime soon.

However, they may not have a choice but to break the bank and land a striker capable of leading them to glory if they want to end their 21-year title drought.
