The situation surrounding Dani Olmo’s registration at FC Barcelona continues to drag on, but there is finally some encouraging progress for the club.

Late on Friday night, La Liga informed Barcelona that it had completed its review of the documents submitted on 30 and 31 December.

As a result, La Liga granted the Blaugrana the 1:1 financial fair play rule, marking a significant step forward. This change allows Barcelona to enter the winter transfer market without restrictions, restoring normality to their dealings.

This development is crucial for Barcelona, as it was a necessary step to register Olmo and Pau Victor. The club had formally requested their registration on 30 December, but hurdles remain.

La Liga has yet to approve the registration of both players, and Barcelona firmly deny having any informal agreement with the league over this matter.

What’s the problem now?

According to Mundo Deportivo, at the heart of the issue lies a disagreement over the interpretation of regulations.

La Liga maintains its stance that the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) does not accept Barcelona’s interpretation of “force majeure” under Article 130 of the General Regulations.

While internal discussions within the RFEF are ongoing, there is caution due to the recent change in leadership, with Rafael Louzan taking over as president.

Barcelona, meanwhile, continue to push for a resolution. The club updated both La Liga and the RFEF on Friday night, providing additional information on the matter.

However, the RFEF has yet to formally record any request for player registration from LaLiga through the established procedures.

So what next?

If La Liga continues to reject the registration of Olmo and Victor, Barcelona are prepared to escalate the issue.

The club is considering requesting a precautionary measure from the Administrative Court of Sport (CSD) or even turning to the ordinary courts.

This legal approach aims to ensure that both players can continue playing for Barcelona while also addressing a regulatory gap in the financial fair play rules.

Barcelona argue that the current rules put clubs at a disadvantage. The regulations require registrations to be completed by 31 December, despite January being the main transfer window when clubs can adjust their salary margins.

For now, while the 1:1 rule has been restored, the challenge of registering Olmo and Víctor remains unresolved. However, Barcelona are determined to fight for its players and push for a fairer system that benefits both clubs and players alike.
